L.A. City Councilman Jose Huizar Against $2bn Plan That Creates 10,000 Construction Jobs and 3,000 Permanent Jobs

Plans to raze up to 4,400 apartments and condominiums in high-rises replacing the existing 153 apartments buildings containing 1,187 units that comprise the Wyvernwood Garden Apartments by Miami Beach based Fifteen Group in a project worth $2 bn is being opposed by Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar. Spokesman for District 14 Councilman Rick Coca, said the councilman opposes the demolition of Wyvernwood Apartments, an apartment community of 6,000 residents between 8th street and Olympic Boulevard bordered close to Soto and Lorena streets covering approximately 70-acres. "The bottom line for him is that it would dismantle an existing community that has deep roots, generations of families," Coca said. "We would no more dismantle Wyvernwood than we would dismantle Boyle Heights."
