Merced Couple’s Plot To Kidnap and Murder Has Bittersweet Ending

Ana Diaz De Ceja[This article is a reprint of an article originally published at Allvoices.com.]

A California baby who was recently kidnapped then left abandoned on a doorstep due to media coverage of the kidnapping and murder of the baby’s mother had a bittersweet reunion with his family Thursday reports ABC News. Anthony Ceja-Diaz, the baby, was found on a doorstep on December 7 with a body temperature near 86 degrees that had him on the brink of death. Recovered by Child Protective Services, Anthony was delivered to his father Luis DeCeja on Thursday in Merced, California.

Not long before, a local couple, Jose Velarde and Teresa Robles, parents of three children, suffered a miscarriage and desperately wanted a baby boy. It was at a clinic where the couple met Anthony Ceja-Diaz’s mother, Ana Diaz De Ceja, and learned of the recent birth of Anthony. Teresa devised a plot to kidnap the boy and murder his mother and lured Ana and Anthony to visit their home where Jose was waiting to attack and strangle Ana until she died, then dumped in an orchard and set on fire. Ana’s body was found burning and due to all of the press coverage and fear of their imminent capture, the couple left Anthony abandoned on a doorstep.

Jose Velarde and Teresa Robles are being held in a Merced County Jail without bail pending arraignment.

Sarah Palin Believes She Can Win The 2012 Presidential Election

U.S. News and World Report  covers an ABC News interview of Sarah Palin which aired on Wednesday.  During the interview, Sarah Palin states that she is considering a presidential run in the 2012 election. Barbara Walters, the host of the interview, asked Sarah Palin if she could beat Barack Obama and win the election.  Sarah Palin replies matter-of-factly: “I believe so.”

The results of an Associated Press GfK poll, however, tell a different tale.  The poll results indicate that Sarah Palin is viewed favorably by only 46% while 49% view her unfavorably.  Interestingly, of those that considered themselves Republican or independents who lean toward the GOP, 79% had a favorable view of her.
