Zhongxing-10 On Schedule To Launch Into Orbit

XICHANG, Sichuan | June 19

Xinhua News, China’s official news agency, has announced that China Direct Broadcast Satellite Company (China DBSAT) will launch a new communications satellite, the Zhongxing-10 on June 25 at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China. Sources with the center said Sunday that a Long March-3B rocket carrier will carry the satellite into geo-stationary orbit. Both the satellite and rocket carrier are launch-ready and preparations are going smoothly, sources said.

THE SATELLITE

The Zhongxing-10 is an axis-stablilized DFH-4 communications satellite operated by the China Direct Broadcast Satellite Company (CHINA DBSAT) and manufactured by the China Great Wall Industry Corporation. The satellite has a lifetime expectancy of 15 years and will deliver a C-band wide beam covering all of Asia and parts of Australia, Europe and Africa.

THE ROCKET

The Long March-3B rocket carrier according to launch records enjoys a phenomenal success rate with only one failure at the onset of the program and is touted as the most powerful launch vehicle in the Long March fleet based on its predecessor the LM- 3A as its core stage with four liquid boosters strapped on the frst stage.

THE LAUNCHPAD

Xichang Satellite Launch Center (the “launchpad”) is located in Xichang, Sichuan province. The companies headquarter is in Xichang City, a distance of 65 km from the launchpad. The coordinates of the launchpad are 102.0°E and 28.2°N. Xichang Satellite Launch Center launches spacecrafts including broadcast, communications and meteorological satellites into geo-stationary orbit.
