Exactly one week ago Sunday, it was reported that a swarm of more than 86 earthquakes hit the California-Nevada border with earthquakes registering up to magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale. On Saturday, another swarm of earthquakes hit the California-Nevada border, with earthquakes registering up to magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale felt by area residents as far away as Reno, Nevada.
The magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred at 5:45 p.m. 309 miles northeast of Los Angeles and 130 miles east of Sacramento and was felt in Hawthorne and Reno, Nevada. Ten minutes later, at 5:55 p.m., a magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the same area.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, 253 earthquakes have registered on their seismographs for the week of April 10 to April 17, 2011. A corresponding shake map indicates that Hawthorne residents feel light to moderate shaking in the area.
The USGS noted that magnitude 4.2 and 4.4 quakes hit Hawthorne on Wednesday.
