Prime Minister Mario Monti gives head

TRIPOLI

Prime Minister Mario Monti of Italy returned a 2,000 year-old statue that was smuggled out of Libya in the 1960s Saturday during his trip to Tripoli. The sculpted head of Domitilla Minor, the only daughter of Roman emperor Vespasian and Flavia Domitilla the Elder, Domitilla had two brothers: the elder who was Titus, and her younger brother Domitian. After more than 50 years away, Domitilla’s sculpted head known as Head Domitilla has made its way home.

Head Domitilla was taken from Libya’s northwestern city of Sabratha and recently auctioned at Christie’s.

The trip to Tripoli was Prime Minister Monti’s first Libyan visit since Moammar Gadhafi was killed in October and since he took office in November. Mario Monti is also an Italian Economist aside from being the Prime Miniser. He also holds the title of Minister of Economy and Finance and European Union Competition Commissioner.

Airspace over Madagascar closed to prevent return of exiled former President

JOHANNESBURG

Marc Ravalomanana , Madagascar’s ex-president while attempting to end his exile from the country while flying from South Africa had his plans thwarted mid-air when the commercial plane he was a passenger in was forced to turn back after authorities of Madagascar closed their airspace to prohibit his return. The commercial plane returned back to Johannesburg Saturday just after 2 p.m., about the time it had been expected to reach Antananarivo, the nation’s capital. Antananarivo was founded circa 1625 by King Andrianjaka where Madagascar’s ex-president had served as Mayor prior to having served as the nation’s president from 2002 to 2009.

Reporters on board said the commercial plane did not stop to refuel in Mozambique as originally planned, according to Peter Mann, Ravalomanana’s spokesperson. Ravalomanana has been exiled in South Africa since being thwarted from the presidential seat in 2009. Although in exile, Ravalomanana is credited with improving the country’s infrastructure along with making improvements in education and health. The exiled president, however, has faced criticism for his lack of progress against poverty.

Woman Severs Attacker’s Penis And Delivers It To Police As Evidence

Bag with PenisMonju Begum, 40, married and a mother of three children, says her neighbour Mozammel Haq Mazi had been harassing her for the past six months in Mirzapur village, Jhalakathi, about 200km (124 miles) south of the capital, Dhaka. Mazi forced his way into her shanty and started assaulting her. Police say she cut off his penis during this alleged attempt to rape her and she took it to the police station as evidence.

Mr Mazi, who denies the accusation, has been admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital in Barisal town.

“We will arrest him once his condition gets better,” police spokesman Abul Khaer told the BBC.

“She said she fought back and cut off his penis and brought it to our police station in a polythene bag to prove that Mr Mazi tried to rape her,” said Khaer.

“She has registered a case accusing him of attempted rape,” he said.

“It is quite an unusual incident. As far as I am aware, this is the first time that a woman has brought a severed penis to the police station as evidence.”

Mr. Mazi, who denies the allegations, states “we were having an affair and recently she suggested that both of us can go and settle down in Dhaka.”

“I refused and told her that I cannot leave my wife and children, so she took revenge on me.”

Prof AMSM Sharfuzzaman, a senior surgeon at the hospital told the BBC it had not been possible to reattach his penis. “Police brought his severed penis several hours after the incident,” he said. “We are treating him so that he can urinate normally without the penis.”
